Terceira island has nothing of the glamour of a rich island, even though it is not that poor-Terceira appeared to me as very rural, maybe it was more of an "image" or "attitude" thing rather than a reality. It impressed me though with its beautiful Impérios-these are little chapels dedicated to the Holy Spirit-I absolutely adored them-simple and humble and sweet as they are. In the airport I found out that there are about 70 Impérios on the whole island.
The two days spent there were not very sunny if I may say so-actually one day it rained a lot and it was quite cold.
So we took the bus to Biscoitos-this is a little town in the northern part of the island - I wouldn't say that I was that well informed but as you all know by now, life takes you to the place where you are supposed to be :-) so this was our discovery of the day-it was quite difficult to get to the shore as we had to walk along a street where a crazy dog kept barking and barking and I was afraid he would jump the fence and eat us :-) but at the 3rd attempt (yes, I know, shame on me :-))) we made it! and we discovered an amazing place. Saint Peter knew we had to take pictures so the Sun was out just while we were there....
On our way back we had an amazing trip to Angra do Heroismo - we were almost alone in the bus with a couple that talked English but started to speak perfectly Portuguese with the driver-I couldn't understand who they were, where did they come from, where were they going :-) Their story was this- they left Terceira when they were about 16 years old, met in the US (this is called fate :-)), got married and got back on a holiday to see their childhood places-it was soooo touching-they kept saying-oh, look at the house of my aunt or look that house is of Maria, the neighbor of my grandma or this is where I used to play. It was like living in a novel. The bus driver stopped once the bus just for us to take some pictures of a fountain - sometimes Portuguese are really tooooo kind :-)
I liked Terceira for its hidden places, lovely cliff just next to the hotel and its faith.
